Rewinder

In many processes, waste materials or produced materials need to be wound.

We developed motor controllers for two winding machines with different requirements. The goal was to wind the materials evenly and under low tension, so as not to affect the overall production process. The material masses range from a few grams up to several kilograms.

In addition, it must be possible to manually intervene in the winding process and rotate the winder both forwards and backwards. The fill level is also monitored and signaled.

The first winder was equipped with a BLDC motor and block commutation, while the second used a BLDC motor with sine commutation.

Both commutation methods were implemented on an STM32 microcontroller. For debugging, we developed an oscilloscope integrated into the microcontroller firmware. After a trigger, the data can be read via UART and visualized using a Qt application.
